Family Care

Our practice is focused on intergenerational care - we provide the range of services that our patients need at every stage of life.

Families will appreciate the fact that we have three hygiene rooms, so we can see more family members at one time.  That means no long waits in the reception area. (Of course, your kids won’t mind a few minutes here because they’ll enjoy the play area reserved especially for them.)  You’ll be on your way before you know it!  Children love to come to our office, and our hygiene staff is exceptionally good at meeting the needs of our youngest patients.

With today’s dental techniques and technologies—and Dr. Crabtree’s expertise in using them—you can change an embarrassing, uncomfortable or even a so-so smile into one that you are proud of.  Dr. Crabtree can correct teeth that are rotated, unevenly spaced, of uneven lengths, discolored, worn down, and even missing.

Sometimes a single procedure will enhance your smile, and sometimes a combination of techniques and procedures will be necessary.  If, for example, you have an unsightly gap between your front teeth, thin sheets of ceramic called veneers can be bonded to your teeth.  These will look like your natural teeth minus the imperfection.  Veneers can also fix problems due to discoloration, shape, size and even spacing. 

Sometimes a combination of procedures is needed to achieve the desired result.  If you’re missing one or more teeth you may be particularly aware of their importance to your appearance and dental health.  All your teeth work together to help you chew, speak and smile.  When teeth are missing, it’s difficult to do these things.  Even the loss of a back tooth may cause your mouth to shift and your face to look older.  Fortunately missing teeth can be replaced, and they should be.  Many patients choose dental implants to replace a single tooth or several teeth.    Implants are used in conjunction with crowns and bridges to restore the teeth to form and function.  They can even be used to support a full set of dentures.

Restorative & General Dental Care

Whether you have a small area of decay, a complex problem with your bite or anything in between, Dr. Crabtree can restore you teeth to a healthy, natural-looking state. Your care will start with a comprehensive examination, during which he’ll look carefully for any signs of gum (periodontal) disease, areas of decay, and cracked or broken teeth.  You’ll receive the benefits of the latest dental technologies and materials:

• The Diagnodent laser technology allows us to detect decay in your teeth at the earliest stages.  Cavities are filled when they are small, preserving more of your natural tooth structure.
• Digital radiography (x-rays) drastically reduce the amount of radiation to which patients are exposed.  Digital x-rays can be developed instantly and easily enlarged, making them an outstanding diagnostic tool.
• Intraoral cameras give you a doctor’s-eye-view inside your mouth.  Because you can see what the doctor sees, you become a more informed partner in your dental care.
• An anesthetic patch minimizes the pinch you feel when you’re getting the initial stick of a numbing shot.  You may not be even aware of the needle going in!

Preventive Hygiene Program

When your teeth are looking and feeling their best, you’ll want to keep them that way, We partner with you by encouraging regular cleanings and examinations and good at-home care. As we partner in your dental healthcare we focus on the varying needs of each family member.

We encourage fluoride treatments to prevent decay in children and youth and pay close attention to the eruption of their permanent molars so that sealants can be applied before these teeth decay. We monitor all children to insure they are referred to an orthodontist if and when necessary.  Regular dental visits are additionally important during puberty.   Rising hormone levels can exaggerate the way the gums react to plaque, increasing inflammation.  In the late teen years we focus on the eruption of the third molars and alert you if they can crowd your child’s smile.  This is especially important if you have already invested in orthodontics.  We encourage the formation of good hygiene habits in our young patients (and in all of our patients). We’ll do our best to help this generation grow up decay free and keep their natural teeth all their life. 

Many adults believe visiting the dentist regularly is all about checking teeth for cavities. We do examine your teeth closely, but also focus on the health of the gum and bone that hold the teeth in place.  It is possible never to have had a cavity in your life and yet loose your teeth to gum disease that results from an accumulation of plaque and tartar.  Because tartar can only be removed professionally, the way to limit the disease-causing effects of tartar is to have your teeth regularly cleaned by one of our dental hygienists.  During these regularly scheduled appointments we will examine your gums for periodontal problems.

Dr. Crabtree understands and sympathizes with patients who are apprehensive about receiving dental treatments because of previous bad experiences.  You’ll find him patient, gentle and reassuring. We’ve had many patients so relaxed when Dr. Crabtree is caring for them that they fall asleep in the dental chair!
